Tim Macer

Tim Macer is the founder of meaning ltd, which he originally started as Tim Macer Services in 1993. He has worked for over 25 years in the field of information technology for marketing and opinion research. Prior to forming his own consulting company, he was Director of Customer Services for a research software company and before that worked as a data analyst in a research bureau and a software programmer.

meaning ltd, based in Haslemere, England (an hour South-west of London), currently has five staff and associates, and works with research companies and institutes of all size, corporate research departments in many blue chip companies worldwide, as well as public and not-for-profit organisations. The company provides expert advice on research technology, change management, where technology is involved, and researches, analyzes and reports on the research software vertical market and on technology-based methodologies. Interventions by meaning often focus on achieving growth and improvement through better, or more rationalized use of technology, and the effective management of the transitional process.

Macer has established a reputation internationally as an authoritative, independent analyst and commentator on software for survey research, and is often called on by industry bodies to provide an independent perspective on the subject. He is a member of the editorial advisory board for the International Journal of Market Research, a full member of the Market Research Society and serves on the committee of the Association for Survey Computing.

As a writer, Macer contributes regularly to two industry-respected magazines - Research in the UK and Quirk's Review in the USA - on software and technology, and has published numerous papers and articles on the subject. In 2006, Macer was appointed Senior Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton and is involved in establishing a postgraduate degree in Marketing Analytics at the University’s School of Management.
